Michaela Palacios
Lampworked glasswork

LOCATION:
As a glass artist on the Coromandel there is never a hunt for creative encouragement as beauty is everywhere. I specialise in Lampworking which is a form of glass blowing using a torch to melt glass rods.
The ocean, brimming with ever changing inspiration, is my main interest. The cultural influence of my Mexican heritage gives me a serious passion for colour. This year I am experimenting with incorporating beach sand into the jewellery I make which offers a unique, local artwork.
I am happy to create works of art for people. I also provide glass bead making classes that gives hands-on demonstrations. Classes are held in my glass studio in Kuaotunu which is a converted cargo container. I also grow flowers for a living which allows me the feeling of spontaneous creativity. Nature, like glass, is always changing.
