I create figurative sculpture. I find a gesture, subtle or not so subtle which inspires me and go from there. I am influenced by classical mythology, renaissance sculpture, 11-12 century religious art/iconography, early 20th century european painting and always nature.
When I sculpt I am translating weight, line, light, shade, and gesture into emotion, a thought, a mood or vice versa. The female form seems to be the vehicle I use to express everything and conveniently I use my own experience, real or imagined, and my own body as a reference. Each undulation is so familiar, feminine, gentle, sometimes languid, sometimes layered and then strangely awkward, yet always honest. I have always drawn and painted from life and have been a life model since my early 20's. Clay I discovered some years ago and we fell in love.
