Mercury Bay Art Escape
The annual Mercury Bay Escape takes place on the first 2 weekends of March 2023.
Experience the creativity of the region and meet the makers.
Take a weekend to immerse yourself in the inspirational Coromandel. Visit the open studios and chat to the painters, printmakers, sculptors, jewellers, mixed media artists, including the alchemist, who practices the art of creating botanical inks.
Showcasing the diverse artistic culture of our area, the Mercury Bay Art Escape begins at the Hikuai, south of Tairua and winds its way northward up the eastern Coromandel coastline through Hot Water Beach, Hahei, Flaxmill Bay, Cooks Beach, Whitianga township, Kuaotunu to Otama Bay and ending in Matarangi.
The creativity you will discover is a collective of artists inspired not only by the colourful landscape of the Coromandel, but also by the abundance of the surrounding natural environment.
The Mercury Bay Art community is scattered throughout this #goodforyoursoul landscape, not only is the Art Escape an inspiration for the local community, but for the many visitors we welcome to our area. Take a weekend to enjoy this unique opportunity to enjoy exceptional art, great food, boutique breweries and welcoming hospitality.

The Gala Opening kicks off the annual Art Escape Open Studios and Showcase exhibition and is a highlight on the Coromandel arts scene.
It is a chance to meet the artists, mingle with other art lovers, purchase art and is your exclusive preview of our Member's Showcase Exhibition.
The opening will be held on 3 March at at Hot Wave Cafe, Hot Water Beach.
This art event includes:

Mercury Bay Art Escape is an enriching and engaging visual art experience for locals and visitors to the Coromandel Peninsula. Our annual Open Studios are a major draw card on the peninsula and national visual arts calendar.
These open studios provide a unique opportunity to visit member artists at work, and find out what inspires them and what new ideas they are working on. It also gives you the chance to buy original work from some of the best artists in Mercury Bay direct from their studios.
